BRAIDING TI
10" x 15"
$ 300.-"The kupuna in this painting is a wonderful craftsperson, as well as a chanter, singer, and all- around wise person. Here, she was braiding ti leaves into shoes, leis, and other objects at a festival by the sea. Ti leaves are used in cooking -- meat and taro leaves are wrapped with ti for steaming laulau. They're used in the imu (underground oven) when kalua pig is being baked. Intricate leis can be assembled by braiding together many ti leaves. Ti plants and leaves are used daily by florists in their gorgeous bouquets. And ti leaves are important in religious ceremonies. No wonder ti plants were one of the 24 plants that the Polynesians introduced to Hawai'i when they first journeyed from the Marquesas and Tahiti over 1200 years ago."E-Order - 'BRAIDING TI'
