"Keawakapu Beach was one of the most favored beaches on Maui in pre-contact times. The Hawaiians were able to launch their fishing canoes there, as well as fishing from the beach, harvesting opihi and pipipi shells on the rocks, as well as limu (seaweeds) for food. Families lived there in hale (houses) covered with pili grass or sometimes coconut branches."
